The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, on Wednesday expressed her Government's firm support for and recognition of police personnel who risk their lives to protect citizens amid the fight against violence and crime.

"Our Government will firmly support police personnel who risk their lives to protect us," the Head of State said during the
ceremony recognizing Peruvian National Police (PNP) Lieutenant General Fredy Lopez Mendoza as the new General Commander.

In this regard, the Head of State announced that the Government will provide police personnel with better tools, training, technology, intelligence, and decent conditions to fulfill their mission.

"Dear police family, Peru is facing a decisive fight against crime, extortion, contract killings, drug trafficking, and criminal organizations. Faced with this threat, our country needs a professional, modern, respected, and united police force," she underscored.

The top official stated that support for the police also requires exemplary conduct from its personnel, as individual acts of corruption cannot be allowed to tarnish the uniform and undermine confidence in this institution.

"We will reward excellence, but we will also act firmly against any deviation," Fujimori pointed out.

In her speech, the President said crime has declared war on the country, to which the Peruvian State must respond with greater firmness.

"In that response, the National Police will always be on the front line. The challenge is great, but so is the determination of our State," she noted.

The Head of State also addressed the new PNP General Commander, Fredy Lopez Mendoza, telling him that his appointment recognizes his professional career and experience, but also represents a very clear mandate: to lead our police force with firmness, integrity, discipline, and closeness to citizens.

"General Commander Lopez, you can count on our full political and financial support (...). The Government places its trust in you and entrusts you with leading this fundamental institution to protect the lives, peace of mind, and rights of all Peruvians," she indicated.
