The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday morning emphasized that the country cannot stop. Therefore, she reiterated her call for peace and to avoid violence in mobilizations called in some Peruvian regions —as they do not lead to anything positive; on the contrary, they constitute backwardness.

"I call on the brothers of southern Peru to a national reflection; violence and strikes, including road blockades, do not lead to anything positive. On the contrary, they lead to backwardness," Mrs. Boluarte said in remarks to Radio Exitosa.

The Head of State affirmed that those who take over or block roads will end up being the ones affected, because they will not let food pass and will create chaos at times when "the country cannot stop," she pointed out.

The top official affirmed it cannot be taken as a pretext for said protests the fact that general elections will take place in April 2024 and not in December 2023, since that is only three months apart.

The President emphasized that this fact "is not a justification to paralyze the south of the country."

The dignitary even recalled that National Elections Board authorities were clear in pointing out that bringing the elections forward can be achieved by tightening the deadlines that Congress can issue, adding that they are on that path.

On the other hand, Mrs. Boluarte reiterated that the violence generated in past protests was not generated by the Peruvian State. In this sense, she said illegal mining and drug trafficking were behind those mobilizations.

In addition, the President noted that there are people sentenced for terrorism, fully identified, who incite mobilizations and acts of vandalism.

Similarly, she confirmed that the Attorney General's Office is conducting investigations regarding those who died in the mobilizations that took place in various Peruvian regions last December.
