Peruvian soccer clubs Inti Gas and Juan Aurich started their 2013 Copa Sudamericana campaign on the wrong foot as they were beaten in their respective opening games on Tuesday.
Atletico Nacional of Colombia defeated Inti Gas 1-0 in the first leg of their first stage match of South America's second most important international club tournament after the Copa Libertadores.
Sherman Cardenas netted the winning goal nine minutes into the second half, giving Juan Carlos Osorio's Colombian giants an important away goal ahead of the 6 August return in Medellin.
Another Colombian team were also celebrating against Peruvian opponents, as two goals by Jorge Aguirre helped Itagui see off visitors Juan Aurich, FIFA.com reported.
Diego Cabrera opened the scoring in the 29th minute after Juan Aurich goalkeeper Erik Delgado failed to hold a long-range shot.
Aguirre doubled the lead 10 minutes later with a penalty and just before the interval the same player chested down a Luis Quinonez cross to give Itagui a comfortable lead ahead of the second leg on 7 August in Chiclayo.
On Wednesday, Ecuadorian giants Emelec visit Sport Huancayo of Peru, while Colombian side Deportivo Pasto take on Melgar FBC, also of Peru.
