Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Saturday affirmed that the fight against crime and contract killing are on the central agenda of President Dina Boluarte and her Government.

The Cabinet chief specified that in order to achieve this objective, the top official ordered the Peruvian National Police (PNP) to take to the streets, with the aim of providing security to the population.

"The protection of people's integrity, plus the fight against organized crime and contract killings, are on the central agenda of President Boluarte and her Government," he expressed.

In that sense, the government's spokesman underscored that the Executive Branch has issued various legislative decrees to articulate the legal framework in terms of citizen security.

Given these amendments, the police can directly investigate crimes whenever people's integrity is threatened.

"Now, the (Peruvian) National Police will be able to intervene in serious events, such as sexual violence cases, to investigate and report to a prosecutor. The police's fundamental purpose is to guarantee and maintain domestic order in accordance with the Constitution," he affirmed.

Regarding the situation of fugitives from justice, the prime minister ruled out any type of "coexistence" between fugitive Vladimir Cerron and the Government.

"He (Vladimir Cerron) is a person who will be captured if he does not turn himself in to justice. No one should play with impunity and jurisdictional decisions," Otarola concluded.
