Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti on Monday affirmed that everyone at the Government is working responsibly so that Peru can access the COVID-19 vaccine at the right time, so she ruled out a triumphalist attitude on the matter.

"One thing does not go against the other. Everyone in the country is working to get the vaccine at the right moment," she stated this morning after participating in a ceremony marking the Peruvian Medicine Day at Dos de Mayo Hospital.

"None of us feels triumphalist. I think that everyone feels responsible, which is the most important thing, with the conviction that we have to be as prepared as possible for what may come around," she added.

For his part, President Martin Vizcarra affirmed that the application of the COVID-19 vaccine will have begun by the end of his term, on July 28 next year.

He also said that those on the front line of the COVID-19 battle, that is, health workers, police officers, Armed Forces members, vulnerable people, and polling station members participating in the 2021 general elections, will be the first beneficiaries of the vaccine.

Simplification of formalities

In statements to the press, Mazzetti assured that the health system is getting ready, and that the procedures to guarantee the arrival of the vaccine in the shortest possible time are being sped up.

On the matter, she explained that its purchase involves a series of formalities, although they have been reduced, and now, there is just one administrative step left. In addition, the corresponding decree is expected to be issued to make the respective payment.
