Peru's 2026 Elections: Lima, La Libertad, Piura, Arequipa and Cajamarca have most voters

Lima, La Libertad, Piura, Arequipa, and Cajamarca are the five regions with the largest number of voters for the April 12, 2026 General Elections, the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) reported on Thursday.

Lima accounts for 8,651,028 voters; La Libertad 1,552,691; and Piura 1,534,085.

Meanwhile, Arequipa registers 1,226,525 voters, and Cajamarca records 1,198,773, according to official figures.

By contrast, Madre de Dios ranks last by voter count, followed by Moquegua (164,628), Tumbes (181,317), and Pasco (223,695).

The electoral roll—described as the most thoroughly vetted in Peru's history—was prepared by Reniec and approved by the National Elections Board (JNE) through Resolution No. 0744-2025-JNE.

It establishes that a total of 27,325,432 Peruvians—both at home and abroad—are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.

Of this total, 13,544,326 correspond to men (49.57%) and 13,781,106 to women (50.43%).

Arequipa

Of the 1,226,525 registered voters in Arequipa region, 612,417 are men and 614,108 are women.

From this total, 981,731 will vote using a standard national ID card (blue DNI), while 244,794 will use an electronic ID card.

Arequipa is made up of eight provinces, listing the following electoral populations: Arequipa (951,357 voters), Camana (52,655), Caraveli (31,648), Castilla (28,141), Caylloma (84,542), Condesuyos (14,745), Islay (51,409), and La Union (12,028).

By education level, 873,236 report secondary education, 140,099 primary education, 184,208 higher and technical education, and 26,154 no formal schooling.

Likewise, 2,441 have early childhood education, and 387 have special education.

By marital status, 932,432 are single, 261,554 married, 15,397 widowed, and 17,142 registered as divorced.

According to the electoral roll prepared by Reniec, 101,499 Arequipa residents are eligible to cast their vote for the first time in the General Elections.
