Peru: Total private credit up 4.5% in August 2025

Total credit to the private sector—which includes loans from banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives—accelerated its year-on-year growth rate for the fourth consecutive month, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.
"Thus, it rose from 3.9% growth in July to 4.5% in August 2025, its highest expansion rate since November 2022. On a monthly basis, credit increased by 0.7% in August," the issuing authority stated.

By type of currency, in year-on-year terms, credit growth in Peruvian soles (S/) rose from 3.8% in July to 4% in August.

Credit in foreign currency also increased, from 4.4% in July to 6.1% in August 2025.

In monthly terms, credit in domestic currency rose by 0.6%, while credit in foreign currency grew by 0.8%.
