Peru: President Boluarte leads Council of Ministers session at COEN

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte led a new session of the Council of Ministers at the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) in Lima's Chorrillos district on Wednesday.

The meeting took place in a context of social crisis due to the impact of Cyclone Yaku on the Peruvian coast and of the landslides that have been registered lately.

Since the beginning of the rainy season until March 12, around 60 people have died and more than 12,000 have been affected, according to the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).

The Government has declared a state of emergency in 18 districts of Metropolitan Lima and in four of Callao region due to the imminent threat posed by the forecast heavy rains.

Since the early hours of Wednesday, ministers have been deployed to various areas in Lima affected by landslides and ravines.
