Jorge Chavez International Airport's new terminal —the new gateway to the Peruvian capital, Lima— will officially begin operations today at 1:00 p.m., Lima Airport Partners (LAP) Communications Manager Rocio Espinoza confirmed.

"We have to move from this entire complex to an airport three times larger, which is why we need 12 hours for a complete, coordinated move," Espinoza explained on Saturday.

The LAP officer specified that critical equipment, aircraft, and personnel were gradually transferred to the new terminal during that time.

On social media, LAP had indicated that the doors of the new Jorge Chavez International Airport would open today at 8:00 a.m. to welcome passengers with scheduled flights, which indeed took place.

The first commercial flight to take off from the new Jorge Chavez will be bound for Atlanta, United States. It will be operated by Latam Airlines Peru using an aircraft with capacity for 233 passengers.

Likewise, the airport will receive flights operated by Iberia from Madrid, Sky Peru from São Paulo, and Sky Chile from Santiago, marking the beginning of a new stage in the country's air connectivity.

Before this opening, since May 15, a trial run was carried out involving 116 international flights that transported more than 22,000 passengers, allowing for adjustments to operational procedures and signage.

To facilitate access to the new terminal, the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) has expanded the AeroDirecto service, the only one authorized to reach the airport facilities.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) has guaranteed constant monitoring of the service and all airport operations during this key transition period.
