Following the start of full operations, the first commercial flight to depart from the new terminal at Jorge Chavez International Airport —the gateway to the Peruvian capital, Lima— will fly to Atlanta, the United States. Operated by Latam Airlines Peru, the flight has a capacity of 233 passengers.
This announcement was made on Friday during the inauguration ceremony of the modern air terminal.
The event was led by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte and attended by Transportation and Communications Minister Cesar Sandoval Pozo, along with other Cabinet ministers and high-ranking aviation officials.
"With an investment of over US$2 billion, this modern and secure airport will be able to receive 30 million passengers this year, with a projection reaching up to 40 million by 2026. Thanks to this megaproject, Peru will position itself as one of the most competitive airport hubs in the region and will have one of the five highest-capacity airports in South America," Minister Sandoval highlighted.
On its first day of operations, the new Jorge Chavez will also receive commercial flights from Europe and South America. The first of these will be operated by Iberia from Madrid, Sky Peru from São Paulo, and Sky Chile from Santiago.
Since May 15, a successful trial run has taken place, during which 116 international flights (58 arrivals and 58 departures) were operated, transporting 22,764 passengers to and from cities such as Buenos Aires, Madrid, Mexico City, Santo Domingo, and Punta Cana.
During this trial period, key adjustments were made to operational processes, vehicle signage, and passenger flows, allowing for optimized user experience and fine-tuned internal procedures at the new terminal.
Operational transition on June 1
In the early hours of Sunday, June 1, the final transition of operations from the old terminal to the new airport will take place.
From 1:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (local time), all flights will be temporarily suspended while key assets —including aircraft, ramp equipment, as well as operational and administrative personnel— are transferred.
This complex operation has been carefully planned in coordination with the concessionaire LAP, airlines, aviation authorities, and security forces to ensure a smooth transition.
