The
new Jorge Chavez International Airport —the gateway to the Peruvian capital, Lima— reached a new milestone Thursday evening: it successfully received its first international passenger flight, arriving from Buenos Aires.
The Aerolineas Argentinas aircraft landed at 8:00 p.m. with approximately 160 passengers on board, marking the official start of the soft launch of the modern airport terminal.
Also participating were the Deputy Transportation Minister Ismael Sutta, and Civil Aviation Director General Donald Castillo, among other officials.
This phase is crucial to fine-tune all processes, as well as ensure a safe and efficient transition to the full operation of the new terminal, scheduled for June 1.
The first departing flight was also operated by Aerolineas Argentinas, bound for Buenos Aires. It departed at 10:40 p.m. (local time).
Initially, four international airlines are participating: Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Europa, Volaris, and Arajet, with an average of six to eight daily flights.

This first day also marked the start of operations for all systems required for international flights: check-in, immigration and security controls, customs services, boarding, disembarkation, and assistance for transit passengers.
To
facilitate access to the new terminal, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) completed a comprehensive modernization of 4.2 kilometers of Callao's Morales Duarez Avenue, with an investment exceeding S/40 million (above US$10.88 million), providing new asphalt paving, modern signage, and smart traffic lights, among other improvements.
Entry to the new terminal will be exclusively through the aforementioned route.
On June 1, between 12:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., the final transition of operations from the old terminal to the new one will take place.
During this period, airport services will be temporarily suspended, as is common in similar transitions worldwide.
This operation has been carefully planned to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient startup.
With this milestone, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reaffirms its commitment to modernizing air transportation in Peru and to the commissioning of world-class airport infrastructure.
