The Council of Ministers, currently in permanent session, has ordered flags to be flown at half-mast at public institutions as an expression of national grief over the recent violent events that have plunged the country into mourning.

Through this symbolic act, the Government of Peru calls for national unity and expresses its solidarity with all affected citizens, reads the statement published on the Council of Ministers' social media channels.

"The government of President Jose Jeri reaffirms its commitment to taking all necessary measures to restore social peace and ensure the population's safety," the statement concludes.
