Peruvian President Alan Garcia said Monday that Peru enters a historic phase with the launching of Lima’s Electric Train Line 1 and highlighted that this service will be used mainly by the working class.
“Such work is not for an elite but for the working class (…) It is to last a century, not five years,” noted the head of state at the inauguration of the Electric Train Line 1, a long awaited project by the people of Lima and that will start operating in October.
The head of state was accompanied by Transport and Communications Minister Enrique Cornejo, executive director of the Autonomous Electric Train Authority (AATE), Oswald Placentia, among other authorities.
In addition, Ministers of Women, Virgina Borra; of Interior, Miguel Hidalgo; of Work, Manuela Garcia; of Culture, Juan Ossio; as well as congressman Mauricio Mulder, also attended the ceremony.
Thousands of Peruvians that move from the Center of Lima to the southern of the city will be able to use a mass transportation system that will make their lives easier.
