Peru: Congress board tests negative for COVID-19, unlike lawmaker

00:00 | Lima, Apr. 8.

Peruvian Congress Chairman Manuel Merino de Lama, other Board members, and Parliament staff —who were in direct contact with the legislator and worker of this State power who had tested for positive for COVID-19— have undergone rapid tests that led to negative results for coronavirus.

Merino de Lama also reported that all the employees —who went to work in recent days— will undergo the same tests in order to prevent the disease from spreading.

The legislator indicated that preventive actions will continue, such as the fumigation of Congress facilities and the suspension of activities thru April 13.

Likewise, the Board has ordered the evaluation of personnel in order to determine the next actions to be taken for the benefit of lawmakers and staff.

On Tuesday, it was reported that a Parliament employee and Popular Action party Congresswoman Leslye Lazo tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

In this regard, it was informed that Lazo went to the Parliament headquarters on March 26.

As is known, the Executive Branch constitutionally dissolved Congress on September 30, 2019 and called for extraordinary elections.
