Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pareja stated that the presidential runoff election held on Sunday proceeded normally abroad.

The government official added that the corresponding electoral records are already arriving in the country and are being processed by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).

"The electoral process was carried out normally across all five continents thanks to the coordinated work by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), the National Elections Board (JNE), and the consular offices," Pareja expressed on Tuesday.

He mentioned that reports received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the voting day proceeded normally and was well organized, facilitating the participation of Peruvian citizens residing in various countries around the world.

The diplomat stressed that by exercising their right to vote, compatriots residing abroad reaffirmed their commitment to democracy and to the country's future.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also said the vote count being carried out by ONPE includes the processing of a considerable number of electoral records from various constituencies abroad.

Calm and responsibility

Minister Pareja stated that citizens and the political forces participating in the election have been awaiting, with calm, responsibility, and civic spirit, the completion of vote count being carried out by the electoral authorities.

The diplomat noted that the orderly conduct of Election Day, in accordance with current electoral regulations, has been confirmed by National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo.

He added that the process has been recognized by various election observation missions, including those of the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union, and the Carter Center.

"In that regard, the government calls on all stakeholders, both domestic and international, to act prudently and responsibly while the vote-counting process remains underway," Pareja indicated.

He said that these election results have not yet been determined by the competent electoral authorities.

Therefore, "any interpretation or premature conclusion would be speculative."
