A total of 8,386 passengers have been carried for free by the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway, better known as the Macho Train, from March 17, when it resumed operations, to date, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported on Monday.

Several years ago, the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway was baptized as Macho Train by passengers using this service, due to several factors.

The nickname was given by locals who said "this train leaves when it wants and arrives when it can."

The Macho Train is one of the only two railways owned by the Peruvian State.

The railway route begins at Chilca Station, located in the Andean city of Huancayo. Then it makes its way through 11 stations and stops along the route, until it reaches the final stop in Cuenca, a town situated in the province of Huancavelica.

To access this service, which remains free of charge, people must come in person to any of the stations or bus stops during service operating hours to get a ticket.

It should be noted that no seat reservations or ticket sales are available through any channel.

The trips are made on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and the timetable for outbound services is approximately as follows: Chilca (6:30 a.m.), Viquez (6:55 a.m.), Paccha (7:08 a.m.), Chanca (7:13 a.m.), Retama (7:20 a.m.), Ingahuasi (7:29 a.m.), Huarisca (7:37 a.m.), Parco (7:42 a.m.), Manuel Telleria (7:52 a.m.), Pilchaca (8:16 a.m.), and Cuenca (8:30 a.m.)

Meanwhile the pick-up times of the return trip are: Cuenca (1:00 p.m.), Pilchaca (1:09 p.m.), Manuel Telleria (1:20 p.m.), Parco (1:33 p.m.), Huarisca (1: 38 p.m.), Ingahuasi (1:46 p.m.), Retama (1:56 p.m.), Chanca (2:03 p.m.), Paccha (2:08 p.m.), Viquez (2:21 p.m.), and Chilca (2:45 p.m.).
