PM: Peruvians to see positive results in economy, reconstruction

08:00 | Lima, May. 10.

Peruvian citizens will be able to see positive results concerning the Inca country's reconstruction process and economic recovery in the next six months, Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva affirmed.

As is known, northern Peru was hit by Coastal El Niño phenomenon floods last year. Said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.

"We will be able to see more tangible results in the reconstruction process, which is one of the major elements, as well as some signs (showing that) the economy is getting back on track," Villanueva told reporters.

Regarding Peruvian economy, the government official noted austerity measures introduced by the Executive Branch will enable savings to join investments directly.

In addition, he highlighted there is an alliance with regional and local authorities aimed at tackling poverty, as well as speeding up public investment.

Villanueva also thanked Congress for the quick coordination with the Executive Power to ensure support for the legislative power request. As is known, his cabinet was granted a confidence vote last week.

Within this context, he explained all proposals -included in the aforementioned request- were grouped into three segments, so that Parliament can approve the most urgent items as soon as possible.

"The first group includes the Reconstruction with Changes Plan, and that is what interests us the most; the second one contains economic measures; and the third is related to electoral reform," he concluded.
