All Peruvians must have the certainty that the Government will act with determination and optimism to put the economy back on track and reduce poverty, Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva affirmed Wednesday.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the Inca country's monetary poverty rate increased 1 percentage point in 2017, thus
affecting 21.7% of its population.
In this regard, the Cabinet Chief noted said rise is an important issue that must be solved, "rather than just complaining about it."
"We are an administration that will act. The country must have the certainty that we will act with determination and optimism to put the economy back on track and
reduce poverty," the Prime Minister told State-run channel TV Peru.
Likewise, Villanueva announced he will submit a "very serious" bill to Congress on May 2 in order to significantly speed up
public investment growth.
"That automatically contributes to boosting private sector's confidence. Plus, we are going to lead an
austere administration with the purpose of lowering unnecessary expenses (…)," he added.
In this sense, Villanueva mentioned the Peruvian Government projects to save slightly over S/2 billion (about US$618 million), which will be invested in the construction of new schools and bridges.
Lastly, the official remarked Peru will be able to
overcome this problem, if the country is governed responsibly and the necessary measures are taken.
"Otherwise, this situation will not be reversed," he concluded.
