PM: 2019 Public Budget to help cover Peru's main needs

14:19 | Lima, Sep. 6.

Peruvian Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Thursday affirmed the 2019 Public Budget will contribute to covering the Inca country's main needs.

"For that reason, we have thoroughly selected the activities to be financed," the official expressed.

"With the combination of a higher budget and a better allocation, we will be able to fulfill our commitments," he added.

As is known, this plan is a tool that prioritizes public entities' operations, within the framework of articulated policies and transparency criteria.

Villanueva went on to add the 2019 Public Budget has increased by S/11 billion (US$ 3.323 billion) compared to 2018, an approximately 6.9% growth.

Decentralization, education, health quality improvement, and women's rights —preventing violence against them— are among the budget's priorities.

The Reconstruction with Changes program; cold spell, frost, and snowfall-related prevention efforts; as well as infrastructure maintenance have also been included in the proposal.

According to the Prime Minister —despite the political-justice crisis— Peru is back on the path towards economic growth.

Furthermore, positive indicators enable the Executive Branch to continue boosting responsible policies and reforms.

The Government's commitment is to transform good economic results into works, thus meaning more schools, hospitals, road infrastructure, and security, Villanueva indicated.

The 2019 Public Budget bill —submitted by the Executive Branch to Congress— amounts to S/168.074 billion (US$50.77 billion).

Remarks were made at Congress plenary session.
