Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez urged the population not to lower the guard against COVID-19 and stressed the need to continue adhering to preventive measures during year-end holidays, so as to avoid the spread of COVID 19 in the country.

"We have not celebrated Christmas in a traditional way; similarly, we can celebrate New Year in a non-traditional way, particularly taking care of ourselves. We cannot lower our guard, today more than ever. Beyond the strains, the only way to protect ourselves is by using face masks, washing hands, and maintaining physical distance," she said.

In this sense, the Cabinet chief asked citizens not to gather on beaches and make an exception for the celebration of New Year's Eve, so that all Peruvians can maintain preventive measures.

In addition, Bermudez affirmed that, in these difficult times, it is time to look for ways to get together; otherwise, all the efforts made in the fight against the pandemic could be lost.

"This is a teamwork effort. People should also commit to health, ours and everyone else's. This is the message we want to convey," the Prime Minister underlined.

Joined by Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Jose Luis Chicoma (Production), Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez offered a press conference to report on the latest measures adopted by the transitional Government in the face of the increase of COVID-19 cases in the South American country.
