Production Minister Jose Luis Chicoma on Wednesday warned that if the situation worsens due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more drastic measures will be taken in Peru in the coming days.

"As the Cabinet chief and the Health minister have mentioned, there is a very particular issue linked to the everyday life that we are evaluating. If the situation worsens, we will take much more drastic measures in the following days, in the following weeks," he expressed.

The high-ranking official indicated that these actions cannot be mentioned in advance, but these would be linked to visitor capacity limits.

Minister Chicoma also affirmed that "the main challenge for this Government is to protect the health of Peruvian men and women (...) To do so and not destroy an economic reactivation that benefits millions of households throughout the country."

Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez, as well as Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Jose Luis Chicoma (Production), offered a press conference to report on the latest measures adopted by the transitional Government in the face of the increase of COVID-19 cases in the South American country.
