Peru President urges joint action against corruption at all levels

19:01 | Jaen (Cajamarca region), Jul. 12.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday called for a joint approach on tackling corruption at all levels, warning this scourge is a brake on the country's aspirations to achieve development.

Speaking from Santa Rosa de Yunga district in Jaen province (Cajamarca region), the Head of State said standing together to combat corruption is an extremely important factor to improve the population's living conditions.

"As long as the verified large-scale corruption exists in Peru, development is impossible. Then, let us all work together —you and us— to combat corruption at all levels," the dignitary said, as he addressed locals.

In this sense, Vizcarra believes such fight involves the election and supervision of authorities, so he reiterated his call for electors to support —with their vote— honest, transparent, and accountable candidates.

"The strength you transmit helps us face any danger, any negative force and, in particular, confront corruption, which does so much damage to the country. You and us will fight corruption," he stated.

Peru's top official reaffirmed his administration will work until the last day in office, along with outgoing authorities —to complete the works and projects initiated in their respective administrations.

Yet the completion of such works shall be achieved by those to be elected in October once they take office next year.

"People are temporary but works stay forever," the Peruvian leader said, noting the importance of continuity.

Vizcarra was joined by Ministers Javier Pique (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation) and Edmer Trujillo (Transport and Communications).

Alongside them, the statesman pledged to do his part to meet the needs regarding drinking water and connectivity in the aforementioned district.
