Peru President: My administration will complete the projects it initiates

18:25 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jun. 22.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed the works initiated by his administration will be completed while he is in office.

His remarks were made from Peru's southern Arequipa region as he launched the integration project Vial Norte, whose completion is scheduled for next year.

"We guarantee this work starts this year and will be fully completed by the next one," said the President, recalling he had received this request while serving as Transport and Communications Minister.

Set to link Las Torres, Italia, and Aviacion avenues in Yura and Cerro Colorado districts, the project became viable on May 9, 2017.

Thus, the Executive transferred S/32.9 million (about US$10 million) to Arequipa Regional Government for its construction during the last week of May this year.

The initiative includes the construction of 8.6 kilometers of road —to be completed in three phases— thus solving traffic problems and reducing travel time by 40 minutes.

With an investment of over S/219 million (about US$66.7 million), the work will directly benefit more than 152,000 citizens.

"Arequipa requires many projects, not only this road. Improvements are needed in healthcare, education, and basic sanitation," the Head of State pointed out.

"That's why we are here. Ministers Edmer Trujillo (Transport and Communications) and Javier Pique (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation) join me to see these needs firsthand," he added.
