Peru President requests corruption-free efforts from new authorities

12:08 | Ferreñafe (Lambayeque region), Dec. 28.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday urged newly-elected local and regional authorities to undertake efforts without corruption, adding this will guarantee the Executive Branch's full support to them.

In this sense, the Head of State warned that officials —who commit crimes— will be subjected to the full force of law.

"If we work without corruption, we will have the money to carry out important projects. We want the population to oversee and let us know if authorities are working correctly," he expressed.

"For that reason, one must work honestly," the statesman stressed.

Furthermore, he underscored the need to maintain a coordinated and joint work among the Government's three levels in order to move the projects forward quickly.

Moreover, President Vizcarra reaffirmed reconstruction works will be carried out faster during 2019 since there are technical dossiers, budget, as well as willingness to work.

Remarks were made during the ceremony marking the delivery of the 10,000th home built within the framework of the Reconstruction with Changes Program.

As is known, northern Peru was hit by Coastal El Niño floods in 2017. Said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, thus leaving many citizens homeless.

On November 13, the Head of State said reconstruction works should not only replace infrastructure deteriorated by the natural phenomenon but also "become a trademark of genuine change."
