President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed reconstruction works in Peru's northern regions must represent a real change in the development of new infrastructure to benefit citizens.

As is known, northern Peru was hit by Coastal El Niño floods in 2017. Said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, thus leaving many citizens homeless.

According to the Head of State, reconstruction works should not only replace infrastructure deteriorated by the natural phenomenon but also "become a trademark of genuine change."

He went on to add the development of potable water and sanitation projects must remain in place.

Likewise, President Vizcarra reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing assistance in order to achieve this goal.

Remarks were made while inaugurating the 350-meter-long Venados Bridge.

The top official was joined by Piura Region Governor Reynaldo Hilbck on the occasion.
