Peru President reaffirms Gov't commitment to promoting tourism

President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration is committed to promoting tourism, as it is an activity with huge potential and high importance for the development of the country.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry can count on his full support for the initiatives aimed at improving this activity.

However, the top official pointed out tourism promotion not only requires the assistance of the government, but also of private businesses and the entire population.

"While we set ambitious goals of 4%, 5%, or 6% growth rates per year in other sectors, in tourism we must consider double-digit goals, as the quantity of tourists, who come here year after year, can increase due to the great number of destinations we have," he expressed.

Likewise, the statesman recalled he visited two important tourist attractions in the country: the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (Cusco region) and the snow-capped Huascaran Mountain (Ancash region), where he was informed about the needs of tourist operators, as well as the existing opportunities to boost this activity.

"If more tourists come here, everyone will benefit from this activity which involves and benefits the entire community," he added.

Remarks were made during the launching ceremony of Safe Tourism Program.

On the occasion, he was joined by Prime Minister Salvador del Solar, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vasquez, as well as other high-ranking officials.
