President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed it is necessary to
, in regards to the alleged influence peddling accusation against Congressman Roberto Vieira.
According to Panorama TV show, Vieira had asked his cousin —and businessman— Guillermo Venegas for US$20,000 in exchange for lifting a sanction on his ship imposed by the Production Ministry.
In this sense, the Head of State informed Production Minister Rocio Barrios wrote a report on this matter and ordered a thorough investigation —within the sector— to determine if other officials supported the legislator on this matter.
Likewise, the top official noted the probe opened by Congress and the Attorney General's Office against the lawmaker, adding he hopes
they will act firmly and —if necessary— punish the lawmaker.
On the other hand, he indicated the government works in favor of
education, health, and communication sectors.
