Peru President: 4th Binational Cabinet brings very satisfactory results

17:56 | Cobija (Bolivia), Sep. 3.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday affirmed the 4th Peru-Bolivia Binational Cabinet had been productive and yielded very satisfactory results for both nations.

As is known, the meeting took place in Cobija and was the most important high-level event reuniting the two South American countries.

Joined by his counterpart, Bolivian President Evo Morales, Vizcarra informed they had extensively reviewed the topics linked to four thematic axes.

Axes

Concerning the first axis, Environment and Transboundary Water Resources, Peru and Bolivia have made progress in the decontamination of Titicaca Lake

According to President Vizcarra, both countries are committed to taking the necessary measures in order to solve this problem in the short-term.

"And we are sure we are going to achieve that goal," he expressed.

In the Security and Defense axis, Peru and Bolivia are planning strategies aimed at fighting common crime and drug-trafficking

Within this framework, both nations have started to coordinate a joint use of radar systems with the purpose of combating drug-trafficking articulately by air.

Concerning Economic Development, Social Policies, and Institutional Strengthening, the Peruvian leader informed both Governments are currently comparing notes on strategies aimed at turning economic growth into an improvement in the populations' quality of life.

Regarding the Infrastructure for Integration and Development axis, the Binational Cabinet has enabled the countries to assess how to improve energy integration, since the two nations rely on natural gas reserves, but —due to geographic difficulties— this resource cannot be delivered to all citizens.

Furthermore, energy integration goes hand-in-hand with road integration, through the Tacna-Colpa-La Paz Highway. It should be noted the Peruvian stretch will be completed next year.

However, President Vizcarra indicated it is necessary to continue thinking about the railway corridor which will not only benefit Peru and Bolivia, but also other countries in the region.

Furthermore, the Head of State showed his gratitude for the attention given by the hosting Government and population to the Inca country's delegation. In this sense, he remarked the respect and affection he had received during the stay in Cobija.

Within this framework, the Peruvian President was awarded with the Order of the Condor of the Andes, the highest honor bestowed by the Bolivian State.
