Peru's non-traditional exports will total US$14 billion in 2018, thus marking a record high, the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) projected.
"Overall, exports are expected to exceed US$50 billion in order to continue consolidating the sector as an engine of growth and employment in the country," Mincetur Head Roger Valencia pointed out.
It must be noted
non-traditional shipments totaled US$6.385 billion in the first half of 2018, up by 18.7% over the similar period last year, accumulating 23 months of continuous growth.
Other sectors such as fruit (+27.5%),
metal-mechanic (+25.5%), and textile-garment (+14%) also stood out in this sense.
Traditional exports
On the other hand,
traditional shipments amounted to US$17.502 billion in the first six months of 2018, a 17.1% increase from the same term last year (US$14.947 billion).
Said outcome was driven by the good performance of mining (+18.6%) and hydrocarbon (+30.5%) sectors.
Lastly, Valencia noted the Inca country's total exports reached US$23.888 billion between January and June 2018, a 17.5% rise compared to the same period the previous year.
