, in coordination with the missions abroad and decentralized offices— managed donations consisting of equipment, medical supplies and technical assistance worth over US$100 million to continue facing the coronavirus (COVID- 19) pandemic in the country.
The aforementioned international cooperation comes from national and sub-national governments, international organizations, companies, NGOs, and other members of civil society.
Major donors include the
European Union (EU), the
United States,
Japan,
Germany,
China,
South Korea, Spain,
Switzerland, Italy, Canada,
Russia, the
United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Poland,
India, the Czech Republic, and Turkey.
The foreign cooperation was geared towards Peru's health system institutions such as the Ministry of Health, the National Health Institute (INS), the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), regional health directorates, as well as regional and local governments.
"The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to highlight and highly appreciate the solidarity of our cooperating partners which —despite facing major challenges in their own health systems and economies— continue proving that international cooperation is an important tool (...)," a statement read.
The
Ministry will continue making efforts to ensure new and additional international cooperation in favor of Peru for the fight against COVID-19, it concluded.
