Peru FA Min: Bolivia joins Lima Group

00:30 | Lima, Dec. 23.

Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia has officially expressed its willingness to become a member of the Lima Group.

The Bolivian Government's decision was confirmed in a letter written by its Foreign Affairs Minister Karen Longaric Rodriguez to her Peruvian counterpart Gustavo Meza-Cuadra.

In his capacity as coordinator of the Lima Group and on behalf of Member States, Minister Meza-Cuadra expressed —in a statement issued to his Bolivian counterpart— satisfaction of incorporating Bolivia into the Group's work.

"Our country reiterates its commitment to a peaceful solution to the crisis in this brother country, with the aim of allowing the return of democracy and the end of the illegal Maduro regime," the cabinet member expressed via Twitter on Sunday night.

The Lima Group is composed of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Santa Lucia, and Venezuela (Guaido administration).

This multilateral body was created in the Peruvian capital city in August 2017 with the aim of finding a peaceful, democratic, and constitutional solution to the Venezuelan crisis —led by Venezuelans themselves— as well as supporting the urgent need to address the humanitarian situation in the Bolivarian nation.
