Peru President: Maduro not Venezuela's legitimate president

19:01 | Lima, Feb. 5.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that Nicolas Maduro is not the legitimate Head of State of Venezuela anymore, adding he hopes internal problems in said nation will be resolved soon.

In this sense, the Commander-in-Chief emphasized that Peru —as well as other governments in the Americas and other parts of the world— has recognized Juan Guaido as Interim President of the Bolivarian nation

Likewise, the official indicated the problems in the Venezuelan territory must be solved by its own population and said he is against any military intervention.

"We hope this will be solved soon, so Venezuelans' suffering can go away. We hope a solution will be found in the short term, so our sister Republic can follow the path of democracy (…)," the statesman expressed.

His remarks were made during a Muni-Executive meeting in Cajamarca region

On Monday, the Lima Group member states that convened in Ottawa, Canada, released a declaration reiterating their support for Juan Guaido as the Interim President of Venezuela and embracing the self-proclaimed leader's request to join this multilateral body.
