These are the COVID-19 vaccine batches for immunization in Peru

On Wednesday evening, the first batch of Pfizer vaccines will land in Lima —acquired under the COVAX Facility mechanism— plus an additional 50,000 doses due to a direct agreement signed with the aforementioned pharmaceutical company.

Thus, Peru will have already received 1.217 million doses from different laboratories.

Below are the vaccines that arrived in Peruvian territory to immunize the population against coronavirus.

Sinopharm

On February 7, the first batch of 300,000 doses from China's Sinopharm vaccine landed in Peru. A second batch of 700,000 additional doses from the same laboratory arrived on February 13.

The Peruvian Government has signed an agreement with Sinopharm over the acquisition of 38 million doses —of which one million have already been delivered to the country.

With these vaccines, the Peruvian State launched the immunization process for the sake of health personnel facing the pandemic nationwide.

Pfizer

On March 3, a first batch of 50,000 vaccines was delivered to Peru from Pfizer. This laboratory is committed to sending 50,000 doses per week, until completing the 250,000 by end-March.

Within this framework, the second batch of 50,000 weekly doses will land in Lima today.

As is known, the Peruvian Government signed an agreement with this laboratory over 20 million doses.

Supported by these doses,

the vaccination of the elderly, as well as of Armed Forces and National Police members began on March 8.

COVAX Facility

The first batch of Pfizer vaccines —acquired through the COVAX Facility— will also land in Lima this evening.

The COVAX Facility —a multilateral initiative that seeks to coordinate equitable access to vaccines with laboratories— is committed to delivering 13.2 million doses to immunize 6.6 million citizens.

This mechanism also guaranteed Peru the delivery of 117,000 doses from Pfizer and 400,000 from AstraZeneca during the first quarter of 2021.

As is known, the Government indicated that it has signed contracts for 48 million vaccines, adding that it continues with negotiations until enough doses are guaranteed for the entire population.
