Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela on Friday received copies of the letters of credence from the new United States Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, in a protocol ceremony reaffirming the strong friendship and cooperation ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, the importance of this year was highlighted, as both countries will commemorate the bicentennial of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in May.

This celebration reflects a friendship based on shared values, mutual respect, and a bilateral agenda focused on both nations' development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Ambassador Navarro's appointment opens a new chapter of close cooperation between the two countries and builds on the high-level meetings held recently.

Within this framework, it noted that Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela met in Washington, D.C., with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in December 2025.

On that occasion, both sides reaffirmed their bilateral commitment to fighting transnational organized crime, identified as the main threat to the region.

Minister De Zela and Secretary Rubio also reiterated their governments' commitment to working in a coordinated and strategic manner in this sphere.
