President Vizcarra: Peru and Chile to work together without rivalry

Peru and Chile reaffirmed their commitment to working together without rivalry in order to achieve common development between their peoples, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra said on Thursday.

In this sense, the Head of State underlined the high level of bilateral relations between both countries, which is based not only on friendship ties but on a solid trade relationship that reaches nearly US$2.5 billion a year. 

As stated by Vizcarra, Peru and Chile are trade partners with similar views on the development of common sectors like mining production and export agriculture. 

Likewise, the top official remarked that he and his counterpart will sign a joint declaration in support of Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno in light of nationwide protests over fuel subsidy cuts in his country.

Finally, he noted the economic situation in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Paraguay is not satisfactory at all.

His remarks were made during the opening of the 3rd Peru-Chile Binational Cabinet in Paracas (Ica region). 

The gathering will address five thematic axes: i) Social issues and culture for integration; ii) Security and defense; iii) Foreign trade, investments, tourism, as well as cooperation in science and technology; iv) Environment, sustainable development, as well as energy and mining issues and; (v) Border development and integration, as well as infrastructure issues.

It must be noted Binational Cabinets constitute a mechanism for political dialogue between two nations with the purpose of working on specific issues of common concern included in the bilateral agenda.
