The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Saturday called on Congress to stop the confrontation with the Executive Branch and work on a national agenda to promote agricultural development and the development of the country as a whole.

"I want to address and call on the Congress of the Republic to stop this useless confrontation, to leave this behind as it causes a lot of harm to our nation's farmers, to the youth, to our brothers all over the country," he said during the delivery of 180 tons of natural fertilizers in Chancay.

The Head of State affirmed that he is willing to talk either at the Government Palace or, if necessary, in Congress in order to achieve unity to work on a national agenda that promotes the country's development.

Remarks were made as he participated in the delivery of 180 tons of guano collected from Peruvian shore islands to family farming communities in the Chancay-Huaral Valley, as part of the Second Agrarian Reform.

At the event, he reiterated the government's political will to support agriculture and announced that S/1 billion (about US$272.5 million) will be allocated to ensure the purchase of fertilizers for national agriculture.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo called on farmers to not only promote the Second Agrarian Reform, but also to ensure food security for the entire population.

He noted that his government has restored the supply of guano collected from the islands among national farmers —as this important resource— which is produced in the country, was sent to other countries.

The top dignitary also affirmed that opening up the foreign market for products of our farmers is as important as delivering fertilizers.
