The President of the Republic of Peru, Jose Jeri Ore, indicated that the Government will assume an offensive stance in the fight against crime, following the adoption of a state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima and Callao at the Council of Ministers meeting the day before.
In a forceful message to the nation, he announced that starting today, the history of the fight against insecurity in the country will change.
“Crime has grown disproportionately in recent years, causing enormous pain for thousands of families and also harming the country's progress. But this is over. Today we begin to change the history of the fight against insecurity in Peru,” he stated.
He also specified that the state of emergency will take effect at midnight on Wednesday, October 22, and will last for 30 days.
"This is a fight that will allow us to regain peace, tranquility, and the trust of millions of Peruvians. Wars are won with actions, not words," he emphasized.
