The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, arrived in Quito on Friday to participate in the 16th Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet and Presidential Meeting he will hold with his counterpart, Daniel Noboa.

In the early hours of today, the Head of State, along with his official delegation, arrived at Mariscal Sucre International Airport in the Ecuadorian capital, where he received the corresponding honors.

The agenda includes the laying of a floral wreath in honor of the neighboring country's national heroes, during which the national anthems of Ecuador and Peru will be played as a sign of mutual respect, historical fraternity, and the strengthening of the friendship bonds uniting both nations.

Additionally, a meeting is scheduled with Ecuadorian Head of State Daniel Noboa at the Presidential Palace of Carondelet to discuss various topics on the bilateral agenda.

These include cooperation in security and defense, the fight against illegal mining, and addressing pollution in the Puyango-Tumbes transboundary basin.

Both top officials will lead the Presidential Meeting and the 16th Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet of Ministers.

It is a forum where working groups will address social, cultural, and cooperation issues, as well as productive, commercial, investment, and tourism matters.

The event will also cover environmental, energy, and mining topics, along with issues related to borders, infrastructure, connectivity, human rights, comprehensive security, and defense.

By participating in this Presidential Meeting and the 16th Binational Cabinet, President Jeri makes his first official trip abroad as Head of State, thereby reaffirming his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation mechanisms with Ecuador, a country with which Peru shares significant challenges, particularly in terms of security.

Twenty-seven years after the signing of the 1998 Brasília Peace Agreement, Peru and Ecuador have consolidated a high-level political dialogue.

This has helped strengthen a strategic relationship between the two countries and establish a positive and sustained work agenda focused on the development and well-being of their populations, especially those living in the border areas.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela, Peru will seek greater coordination with its neighboring countries on intelligence and information sharing, aiming to prevent criminal acts and dismantle the criminal networks operating in the region.

Within this framework, the Peruvian government assigns the highest importance to the Binational Cabinet with Ecuador, hence the need to be represented by its top authorities.
