After concluding her working visit to northern Piura region,
stated that the Government will coordinate efforts with regional authorities to mitigate the impacts of El Niño phenomenon as well as to protect people's lives, cities, and agricultural activity.
"Today we are in Piura, and what we have sought to do, together with the Ministers of Defense and Agrarian Development-Irrigation, is to begin all the desilting work along what will be our country's coast," she said during a press briefing at Captain FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico International Airport in Piura.
The Head of State explained that the first interventions will begin in Piura, as it is the region hardest hit by this climate phenomenon.
In this context, the top official reported that 60 critical sites have been identified that require simultaneous work and an immediate response from the different levels of government.
"As you have been able to see at these rivers, the work is starting late. Unfortunately, the outgoing government did nothing," Fujimori stated.
"However, I believe it is important to emphasize that we will work in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, which has machinery; the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through the National Water Authority, which also has machinery; and the Piura Region Government," she indicated.
Citizen security plan
Next, the President announced that the citizen security plan will be presented in the coming weeks.
It will include the joint deployment of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police to restore order in the country.
"The first thing I wanted to do was express my support for them and tell them that we are going to modernize our police stations. What we announced during the campaign is that, to restore order, the Armed Forces and the National Police will work together," Fujimori said.
The top official recalled that, during her visit to Piura, she made an unannounced visit to a police station in Veintiseis de Octubre district.
At the site, she verified the conditions under which police personnel perform their duties, as well as the lack of equipment and the deteriorated state of the facilities.
Legislative powers
At another point, the President reported that the bill requesting legislative powers from Congress will be submitted next week, once the appointment of the deputy ministers who will participate in presenting and defending the proposal has been completed.
"There have been delays in the appointment of some deputy ministers and some practical obstacles that I am confident will be resolved in the coming hours or days," Fujimori said.
"Once these issues have been addressed, and with the new deputy ministers in office, the entire bill will be presented and defended," she indicated.
Finally, the top official specified that the request for legislative powers will prioritize restoring order, preparing the country for El Niño phenomenon, and removing bureaucratic obstacles that hinder emergency response and State modernization.
