Peru's President oversees preventive works to face EL Niño

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday overflew the area where preventive dredging works are being undertaken in the face of the arrival of El Niño phenomenon.

The activity took place after 11:30 a.m. (local time).

During the overflight, the dignitary was accompanied by Defense Minister Jorge Chavez and officials of the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).

Thus, the Head of State supervised the Rimac river basin, where dredging and trash removal works are being carried out with the aim of cleaning the riverbed.

Said actions are undertaken to enable a normal water flow in this area of the city, in the face of increased rainfall due to the presence of El Niño phenomenon.

As is known, the Government plans to invest S/1.446 billion (US$375.2 million) to implement preventive actions in seven regions across the country in order to address Global Niño phenomenon.
