Jose Maria Balcazar was sworn in on Wednesday night as President of the Republic under the constitutional line of succession, assuming the country's highest office until July 28 of this year.

These are his first statements and announcements following his arrival at the Government Palace in Lima.

The Head of State guaranteed a "peaceful, transparent, democratic, and electoral transition," and said the elections would leave no room for doubt.

Similarly, the top official announced a genuine pacification, with ministries capable of confronting citizen insecurity.

He added that a reform of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), for example, must involve the participation of the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office), the Judiciary, the Ministry of Justice, criminological institutes, and universities.

Likewise, the Head of State noted his aim is to appoint an effective Interior minister, adding that he "will call on the best professionals and individuals to join the effort to restore calm to the country."

Regarding the economy, President Balcazar guaranteed policy continuity.

In this context, the Head of State said he will hold talks with the Economy minister and Central Reserve Bank (BCR) governor to achieve economic improvement.

He also invited Congress to work jointly and "to establish a rapid channel of communication to address the country's problems, which has all the conditions needed for improvement."

Within this framework, the top official said dialogue is the main tool for building consensus. He noted that, politically, he is not an enemy of anyone.

"I am a man of consensus. I have not come to fight with anyone. What I want is for this country to return to the calm of dialogue. Peruvians should not be fighting over anything. There is no left or right here; that old historical tale was created by the French," Balcazar expressed.

The President added that he will evaluate the performance of current State ministers and did not rule out the possibility of reappointments if deemed appropriate.
