called on regional and local authorities in northern Peru to come together to face the current emergency caused by heavy rains
The BAP Pisco vessel will provide humanitarian aid to the regions of Piura, Tumbes, and Lambayeque, which are being battered by heavy rains.
In her speech, Mrs. Boluarte remarked that both she and the above-mentioned authorities have recently taken office, on December 7 and January 1, respectively. In this sense, she said that climate crisis must be faced together and not divided.
"The responsibilities over what was done or not are behind. Today more than ever we must join forces to face what will possibly be the greatest challenging effort, and we must do it in a constructive manner and looking forward, because we have made a commitment to our citizens, especially to the poorest in the country," she stated.
Likewise, the country's top official indicated that, after attending to the emergency, comes the time of rebuilding —on more solid and secure foundations— schools, health centers, highways, and bridges, which have been affected by heavy rains.
In this regard, the Head of State underscored that Congress should soon debate the bill introduced by the Government for the creation of the
National Infrastructure Authority, which is intended to replace the
Authority for Reconstruction With Changes.
Regarding the humanitarian aid delivered by BAP Pisco, she noted that more than 500 tons out of a total of 1,000 tons of supplies will be sent to the country's northern regions, including food, kitchen utensils, bottled water, tents, tools, machinery such as backhoes and motor pumps, as well as roof panels, which will be distributed to Piura, Tumbes, and Lambayeque.
