Peru's mining exports amounted to US$29.091 billion between January and September 2021, up 67.6% compared to the same period last year (US$17.36 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported on Monday.
The mining and energy guild noted that the January-September 2021 (US$29.091 billion) figure was even higher than pre-pandemic levels, since when compared to the similar period in 2019 (US$20.727 billion), it represented a 40.4% increase.
The SNMPE explained that copper sales in the above-mentioned period of analysis reached US$14.951 billion, up 76.8% compared to the first nine months in 2020 (US$8.458 billion).
Additionally,
gold exports totaled US$7.528 billion, a 38.1% growth over the same period in 2020 (US$5.452 billion).
September
The National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy remarked that, in September 2021, mining exports amounted to US$3.536 billion, which represented a 33.4% rise from the same month last year (US$2.651 billion).
It noted that copper exports totaled US$1.820 billion last September, which implied an increase of 24.1% compared to the same month in 2020 (US$1.466 billion).
The SNMPE noted that copper exports benefited from the 31.5% rise in the copper price, even though the shipment volume saw a 5.6% contraction compared to September 2020.
On the other hand, gold exports reached US$946 million in September 2021, a 36.3% growth over the same month last year (US$694 million).
"Exports of this precious metal benefited from the 47.4% increase in the shipment volume, despite the fact that the gold price saw a 7.5% decline from September 2020," it said.
