Mining exports in Peru amounted to US$14.639 billion between January and May 2021, up 68.8% compared to the same period last year (US$8.672 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) has reported.
The mining and energy guild noted that the January-May 2021 (US$14.639 billion) figure was higher than pre-pandemic levels, such as the similar period in 2019 (US$11.002 billion), which in turn saw a 33.1% increase.
The SNMPE explained that copper sales in the above-mentioned period of analysis reached US$7.515 billion, up 83.2% compared to the first five months in 2020 (US$4.103 billion).
Additionally,
gold exports totaled US$3.698 billion, a 33.6% growth over the same period in 2020 (US$2.768 billion).
May
The National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy remarked that, in May 2021, mining exports amounted to US$3.304 billion, which represented a 184.4% rise from the same month last year (US$1.162 billion).
It noted that mining exports in May this year (US$3.304 billion) had already staged a remarkable recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels, as they represented a growth of 42.1% from the same month in 2019 (US$2.325 billion).
On the other hand, copper exports totaled US$1.804 billion last May, which implied an increase of 161.5% compared to the same month in 2020 (US$690 million).
The SNMPE noted that copper exports benefited from the 103.3% rise in the copper price and the 28.6% increase in the shipment volume compared to May 2020.
