The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday received the material, in order for it to be distributed to Peru's missions worldwide, so Peruvians abroad can vote in the June 7 runoff. The handover took place during a ceremony held at the ministry's headquarters with the participation of the heads of electoral bodies.

At a press conference, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and Secretary General of Foreign Affairs Eric Anderson noted that Peru has more than 200 polling places located at embassies, consulates, and honorary consulates.

Likewise, the government official explained that a new feature in this runoff election is the opening of polling places at embassies in Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

Furthermore, the diplomat indicated that electoral material is being sent through international courier company DHL. At noon, five diplomatic couriers will depart for areas where delays could occur.

Anderson thanked the heads of electoral bodies, Roberto Burneo (National Office of Electoral Processes - ONPE) and Bernardo Pachas (National Elections Board - JNE), for attending the handover and subsequent transport of voting material.

"We hope this marks the beginning of an excellent runoff election day and that all the objectives we have set are fulfilled," he concluded.
