Peru defeated Singapore 0-3 in the Girls Volleyball opening group match at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) on Saturday.
According to Straits Times, the Peruvians, who had qualified for the Youth Olympic Games by winning the South American qualifiers, took 16 minutes to wrap up the first set 25-11.
Singapore stretched them for an extra five minutes in the second set before succumbing 13-25. They lost the third set 12-25.
It was the opening match for both Singapore and Peru, but the host nation knew it was an uphill task to go against the Peruvians who stood at an average height of 1.8 metres.
Moreover, Peru, also boasted a sixth-place finish at the 2009 World Youth Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The Peruvian were ferocious right from the start of the match and needed just two minutes to lead the first set at 5-0 with Singapore managing to take their first point only after an unforced error by the Peruvians, Red Sports reported.
