Former President Martin Vizcarra was transferred to the Barbadillo prison in Ate Vitarte on Wednesday evening, in compliance with the 14-year prison sentence imposed on him by the Fourth National Criminal Collegiate Court for the Lomas de Ilo – Hospital de Moquegua cases.

The vehicle carrying the former Head of State departed from the Judicial Detention Center in Lima's La Victoria district aboard a vehicle from the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), which was escorted by Peruvian National Police vans.

Vizcarra Cornejo had remained at said facility since the afternoon, after attending the reading of the sentence at the Judiciary headquarters.

As is known, the Court ordered that the prison sentence against him be enforced immediately.

In the afternoon, his brother, Mario Vizcarra, arrived at the site but was unable to enter the facility. However, he left a bag with clothes and toiletries, according to media reports.

According to the ruling, Martin Vizcarra allegedly received bribes in exchange for awarding the contracts for the mentioned projects to construction companies Obrainsa and ICCGSA.
