Likewise, the South American country reiterated its willingness to continue actively contributing to the IMO's work in support of safe, efficient, and sustainable maritime transport.
The minister stated that Peru —whose foreign trade is conducted almost entirely by sea— has all the qualifications and experience necessary to make a constructive contribution to the organization's work.
He highlighted that, through the IMO, Peru has supported a series of initiatives, including the designation of the Nazca Ridge National Reserve and the Grau Tropical Sea National Reserve as Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas.
The Cabinet member also underscored Peru's contributions in areas such as navigational safety and port infrastructure, among others.
Peru's candidacy is based on the country's longstanding historical ties to the Pacific Ocean and the importance of the maritime sector to its economic development, foreign trade, and international projection.
Within this framework, Peru promotes a comprehensive vision of maritime affairs that integrates navigational safety, protection of the marine environment, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
