Previously, on September 8, the Senate's Special Procedures Committee, chaired by Hugo Ccahuana Aymachoque (Together for Peru Party), approved the report.
It is worth noting that, through Official Letter No. 232-2026-PR, signed by President of the Republic Keiko Fujimori and Prime Minister Luis Galarreta, the appointment of the BCR Governor was formally communicated to the Senate.
The appointment had previously been formalized through a supreme resolution published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.
Regarding the approved report, it concludes that Julio Velarde meets the legal and constitutional requirements to serve as BCR Governor.
Likewise, it states that there is no legal incompatibility or impediment preventing his ratification in the position.
It also details that his track record and technical expertise support the expectation of sound management of the BCR to preserve monetary stability during the 2026–2031 period.
Velarde started serving as BCR Governor in October 2006.
