As part of the Peruvian Government's commitment to global efforts in disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a donation of specialized humanitarian demining equipment, provided by the Kingdom of Norway through the NGO Norwegian People's Aid (NPA).

This contribution is intended to strengthen Peru's operational capacity in fulfilling its obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention).

It included a presentation of the received equipment, which features two Belgian Malinois shepherd dogs, mine detectors, 24 metal detectors, 30 vests, and 30 ROFFI protective visors.

This equipment will enable technical personnel to intensify humanitarian demining efforts, particularly in the Cordillera del Condor area.

The Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister highlighted that, through the Peruvian Center for Action Against Anti-Personnel Mines (Contraminas) —an entity under the Foreign Affairs Ministry— and with the support of international cooperation, Peru has destroyed more than 426,000 explosive devices, including anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions. The center provided assistance to 280 victims.

Likewise, he emphasized that Norwegian cooperation is aimed at fulfilling treaty obligations and safeguarding human lives, as well as strengthening institutions and building trust among States.

Finally, Deputy Minister Denegri stated that the Peruvian Government remains firmly committed to responsibly and resolutely advancing toward the full fulfillment of the commitments under the Ottawa Convention.

The ceremony was also attended by Army's National Development Support Command General Commander, Brigadier General Antonio Baldovino; Norwegian Ambassador to Peru, Per Anders Pollen Nilsen; and NPA Director in Peru, Francesca Scardeoni.

This event took place at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Thursday.
